Oct. 6, 2003
We are only two days away from our first buffalo kill of the year, and things are gearing up fairly rapidly. We're helping some neighbors gatherr their cattle and bringing them in from the "government ground," U.S. Forsest Service grazing allottments. The calves will go to the sale barn; the cows and bulls will go home with the owners. It's not onlyfun work; it's good neighboring. Well, four days have passed. On October 8 (Wednesday) and after some miscommunications and scheduling mixups athe the processing plant, we managed to restock the slightly dwindling supply of the buffalo meat available to you. Once we cleared the schedul;ing problem and re-established good communications, everything went like the proverbial clockwork, and we were finished early enough to go saddle the horses and provide some neighboring to Rob Hunsaker snf s coup[ler of other riders bringing in his cow/calf pairs and a couple of bull from Big Corral Draw. The roundup is almost always enjoyable. You are on horseback riding with good people on a common cause--and at around noon you can count on a pretty good feed somewhere along the Cheyenne River. It's a good time to let the horses graze a little while you sit in the shade eating and telling lies. |
